Hey everyone! We attended the first OWASP Cyprus Chapter event and we’d like to share some thoughts and encourage you to get involved in every way possible.
A few words about the Open Web Application Secrutiy Project (OWASP)
For those of you who are not familiar with OWASP, OWASP is an open community dedicated to enabling organizations and individuals to conceive, develop, acquire, operate, and maintain applications that can be trusted. OWASP produces freely-available articles, methodologies, documentation, tools, and technologies in the field of application security. All of the aforementioned resources are free and open to anyone interested in improving application security. For additional information about OWASP please refer to OWASP.
OWASP Cyprus Chapter
The OWASP Cyprus Chapter was restarted in 2017 due to the fact that it was inactive for a long period of time. However the Cyprus Chapter is back and aims to foster local discussion and awareness of application security in Cyprus. This is achieved by bringing all the developers and security enthusiasts together in order to share information (sharing is caring) and build a stronger infosec community within Cyprus.
The first OWASP Cyprus Chapter was held on 14th July 2017 at Neverland Rock Bar, Nicosia and was purely social. Although no technical talks or presentations took place, the event gave us the opportunity to meet other people such as developers, academics, and security enthusiasts. It was great spending our evening with like-minded people and having discussions about the technologies they use, the issues they face during development, and how the OWASP Cyprus Chapter can help us share knowledge and learn from each other.
According to the OWASP Cyprus Chapter wiki page, the next event will be held on mid/late September 2017 and more details will be made available soon. The chapter leaders are looking for potential speakers that would be interested in giving a talk about application security.
They are also looking for people/organizations that might be interested in hosting or sponsoring future OWASP Cyprus events.
So, if you are interested in either giving a talk at the next OWASP Cyprus Chapter event, or hosting/sponsoring future OWASP Cyprus Chapter events, make sure to contact one of the chapter leaders.
We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you at a local event!
